Johor unveils surplus budget of RM4.21mil for 2024

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Johor has unveiled its 2024 budget with a surplus of RM4.21mil.

Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the state is expected to see a revenue of RM1.804bil next year with a projected expenditure of RM1.799bil.

He added that next year’s forecasted revenue was expected to increase by 4.03% or RM69.96mil compared with 2023.

“A total of RM1.163bil has been allocated for the state’s operating expenditure,” he said when tabling Johor’s budget for 2024 at Kota Iskandar here on Thursday (Nov 23).

He added that as of Nov 22, the state has collected a revenue of RM1.767, which exceeded the targeted amount of RM1.734bil set for Budget 2023.

Next year’s state budget, themed “Memacu Pembangunan Menyejahterakan Rakyat” (Driving Development Prospering the People) has six cores covering governance; economic development; social safety net; facilities and basic needs; cleanliness and environmental sustainability; and youth, he added.

Onn Hafiz also said that the budget would be implemented through 29 strategies and 99 initiatives.

“We understand that the rakyat is facing hardships such as the high cost of living, with necessities becoming more expensive and the drop in ringgit value, which have contributed to the rising cost of living.

“The 2024 state budget was planned as a continuation of our effort to develop Johor’s economy for the wellbeing of the Bangsa Johor people,” he added.
